Malayalam movie industry has long time been recognized for its compelling storytelling, outstanding performances and exceptional artistic integrity. Several movies released recently have made the industry stronger though new commercial benchmarks and emerged as a box office powerhouse. Films like Lucifer, Manjummel Boys, Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life), and Aavesham have not only captured audience attesion but also upto mark to the box office expectations. Lucifer (2019), directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran placing Mohanlal in the leading role, became the first Malayalam film to achieve over ₹200 crore mark globally, creating a new mark for commercial success.
Fast forward to 2024, Manjummel Boys whoich was a low budget movie went a step further, becoming one of the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time with a collection of ₹241.10 crore worldwide. Meanwhile, Aadujeevitham and Aavesham also each surpassing ₹150 crore in global earnings.
