Renowned film director and cinematographer Shaji hid himself forever at the age of 73 on the evening of April 28, 2025, at his residence, ‘Piravi,’ located on Udarasiromani Road in Vazhuthacaud. He is wellknown for a lot of hit movies Piravi, Swaham, Vanaprastham, Nishad, Kutty Shranku, and AKG. Born in Kandachira, Kollam district, Shaji N. Karun was the eldest son of N. Karunakaran and Chandramathi. He received his early education at Pallikkara School and University College in Thiruvananthapuram.
He was the first chairman of the Kerala State Chalachitra Accademy, the initial organization for film and TV in India and was also the executive chairman of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) from 1998 to 2001.
